Looks like I left this a little late as it has just started to flower… hopefully will still be edible though!

I picked all of the mange tout that were bigger than an inch or so and we ate them with our dinner this evening. As you can see we had ten. Yay. At least we managed to grow some stuff though.
Dinner at ‘The Gallery’ on Allerton Road last night, with Dan and Vicky. The restaurant was quite nice, the bar downstairs was absolutely packed so they must be doing something right.
The food was reasonably priced and of a good quality. I wasn’t too convinced by my ‘medium’ venison special but my smoked haddock risotto starter was very nice (if a little salty). My cheese board had been well looked after, was also very tasty and was a much more sensible size than the one I’d had in Amber the other week.
We drank two bottles of an organic Chilean Sauvignon Blanc, which was also pretty decent.
Lunch at Amber in Mossley Hill today, with recently married friends Helen and Adam. The place is run by the brother of an old school-friend of mine (who I’ve not seen for a good few years) and the food was pretty good. It is only over the road from the new house we are buying so it would appear that we may become regulars.
I had the sausage and mash followed by the cheeseboard (which was huge).
This (out of date) bottle of orange juice decided to explode. Our wall was splattered with globs of sticky orange juice up to a height of around 8 feet.
I’m not sure why it happened…
A pleasant meal at OSQA last night, which I didn’t know existed until last week. The service was a bit slow, but they’ve only been open for a couple of months so I’ll let that pass. The food was very tasty, but difficult to pin down a particular style – limes and almonds seemed to be the main themes to me, but my classic fillet steak with peppercorn sauce was very nice, if a little too charred from the grill. Cost for the two of us was £55 including half a bottle of red wine for me, one starter and two desserts.
Decoration was pretty smart, and the live music was good, but was a bit too loud and became quite intrusive. I wouldn’t fancy the karaoke night…
A quick drink at Heebie-Jeebies afterwards, which has been radically refurbished since I was last there, and was really good.
